Finish Training

Finish Training is the last in our series, and a continuation of the foundation we have built in Puppy Training and Started Training.  The skills of Finish Training include:

  • Obedience -- An important basis of any well trained dog, yours will master this skill -- Attention to the will of the handler is the ultimate goal
  • Steadiness (wing and shot) -- Your dog will be calm through all stressful and exciting events -- The fluttering of a group of wings may make your heart skip a beat, but Fido will keep his mind on the job
  • Thorough search of field and water -- When game is wounded and hiding this skill is of utmost importance to a successful hunt
  • Exposure to all hunting situations -- Versatile hunting dogs are built to work many different types of game, exposing them to many different hunting situations will solidify the dog's nerve and will
  • Passion for their work -- Just as you have a passion for this sport, your dog will also be passionate about the hunt, and for making you proud

Finish Training is designed to teach all this skills required in the VGP (Utility Test for Drahthaars) test.  Dogs normally take this test between the age of about 2 - 3 years.  The training will take about 5 months if the dog has been through Puppy Training and Started Training, and between 5 and 7 months for a dog that we've never trained.

Gun Dog handlers of any other breed will be delighted with the hunting performance of their dog after receiving Finish Training.
